The comm lab story
Communications LAB (Comm LAB) is a unique blend of public affairs, community outreach, and strategic marketing services. With expertise ranging from water infrastructure and transportation to public utilities, non-profit organization administration, and digital strategies, we are a small but mighty team of professionals that are ready, willing, and able to help you meet your goals.
Comm LAB was formed in 2013 when Arianna Barrios converted her successful independent communications consultancy, Barrios and Associates, to a Limited Liability Company (LLC). Under the DBA of Communications LAB, Barrios became Chief Executive Officer and acquired the marketing and media division of Faubel Public Affairs (FPA). The new firm combined the talent and experience of Barrios and her husband, Brian Lochrie, (the “L” And “B” of Comm LAB). Following the acquisition of FPA’s portfolio, Communications LAB continued to win strategic, high-profile contracts including Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas & Electric, OC Forum, LA Metro, Amtrak, and the County of Orange. In 2017, Comm LAB acquired Thomas Communications Group and the boutique firm continued to grow to include 20+ team members and two offices (OC & LA).
Comm LAB is a woman- and minority-owned and operated business. Certified by numerous public agencies, the award-winning small business is hands-on by nature. We understand the critical need to connect clients with residents, businesses, and key stakeholders in the community. At its core, the firm provides ongoing, relevant communication in order to cultivate valuable community capital in the form of goodwill and trust.
Our full-service agency provides clients with focused communication, consulting services, strategic planning, crisis communications, media relations, and community outreach services to reach their target audiences. With our team-based approach, we have the capability to develop ideas and strategies and implement them from beginning to end. In-house graphic design, web editing, video production, and translation services all add to the holistic solutions Comm LAB can provide to any client.
